Alaska Airlines on Wednesday moved to Terminal 1 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The move means Alaska joins Southwest Airlines and Breeze Airlines in Terminal 1. Breeze recently moved last month, signaling the airport's fast growth.

On Wednesday morning, WRAL News crews at Terminal 1 noticed the building was already busier than usual.

According to RDU, the moves will maximize gate space in both terminals, accommodating airline needs and preparing for continued growth.

Terminal 1 has eight food and beverage options, including the Raleigh Beer Garden, which will open soon.

WRAL News spoke with some families who said they wish communication was a little bit better about the change. Some people on Wednesday started at Terminal 2 then had to quickly walk over with their luggage to Terminal 1.

Extra employees are stationed in the terminals to help any passengers flying with Alaska. As always, the airport urges travelers to check in with their airline for the latest information before heading to the airport.
